I imagine you’ve faced similar frustrations to mine when appealing to leadership for additional support—it can be incredibly difficult to quantify the role of a School Certifying Official (SCO). We’ve encountered the same challenge when demoing MVN to school leadership who may not realize that their SCOs are likely overwhelmed. There is limited data available on the challenges you face, the resources you need, and the strategies that make your role more effective.
That’s why we’re launching a data collection initiative to gather valuable insights directly from SCOs like you. By participating in this anonymous survey—just 5 minutes of your time—you can help create a clearer picture of the SCO experience. The more responses received, the stronger and more actionable the data will be.
Why Participate?
- Your Voice Matters: The data collected could inform discussions and decisions that impact your role and the broader community of military education professionals.
- Transparency: The raw data, results, and analysis will be publicly available on the MilVet Navigator website, here on SCO Central, plus any other platforms that wish to cite it. This study will remain open through May with the intention of running another for the 25/26 school year with updated questions.
- Actionable Insights: This initiative has the potential to enhance data-driven decision-making, improve institutional support, and elevate best practices across our field.
- Community Impact: Your input will contribute to building a comprehensive benchmark that can help shape policies, advocate for necessary resources, and improve SCO operations at all levels.

SCO Task Assessment
Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences. We are trying to get this survey far and wide so please share with other SCOs. I also apologize for any repeat messages you receive. It’s a small community so it’s bound to happen.
